COAST HIGH SCHOOL POETRY SLAM (PAHS, PCCHS, MHS, MCHS, FBHS)
Tuesday, February 27, 2007
4:00pm at the Arena Theater, Point Arena, CA

On Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at the Arena Theater in Point Arena, high school poets from Point Arena, Fort Bragg, and Mendocino spoke their poetry at the 6th annual MCOE/CPITS Coast High School Poetry Slam. The event was judged by three Mendocino County poets (Jane Reichhold, Wendy Biswurm, Jo Rouse), with audience response influencing their decision.  Thanks to all who joined us at the Arena Theater in Point Arena in support of youth expression! The slam was sponsored by the Mendocino County Office of Education and California Poets in the Schools.

and here are the results of the 2007 Coast High School Poetry Slam:

1st Place:   Point Arena = 476
2nd Place:   Mendocino = 466.5

Individual Scores:
1st Place: Melody Lester = 84
2nd Place: Brady Klopfer = 83
3rd Place: Allegra Fisher = 81.5
4th Place: Marika Tubak = 80.5
4th Place: Danny Maloney = 80.5




INLAND HIGH SCHOOL POETRY SLAM (UHS, WHS, WCHS)

4:00pm at the Willits High School Theater, Willits High School, Willits, CA

On Thursday, March 1, at the Willits High School Theater in Willits, high school poets from Willits, and Ukiah spoke their poetry at the 6th annual MCOE/CPITS Inland High School Poetry Slam. The event was judged by poets Bill Bruneau, Steve Hellmen, Annie Samson and Theresa Whitehill with audience response influencing their decision.   Thanks to all who joined us in support of youth expression! The event began at 4pm and was free and open to the public.   The slam was sponsored by the Mendocino County Office of Education and California Poets in the Schools.

1st Place:   Ukiah High
2nd Place:  Willits High
3rd Place: Willits Charter (with a team of three)



COUNTYWIDE HIGH SCHOOL POETRY SLAM
( FBHS, MHS, PAHS, UHS, WHS)
Tuesday, April 24th, 2007
4:00pm at the Mathison Performing Arts Center, Mendocino High School, Mendocino, CA

On Tuesday, April 24th at the Mendocino High School Mathison Performing Arts Center, high school poets from Fort Bragg, Mendocino, Point Arena, Ukiah and Willits stepped up to the microphone for the 6th annual MCOE/CPITS Countywide High School Poetry Slam. The event was judged by Maureen Eppstein of the Mendocino Writer's Conference, Christie Olson Day, owner of Gallery Books in Mendocino and Terri Beausejor, also knowns as the performance poet Nightsage. This was our best slam ever, as the quality of expression, language and presentation was supurb.  Thanks to all who came out to the Mathison Performing Arts Center in support of youth expression! The slam was sponsored by the Mendocino County Office of Education and California Poets in the Schools. Also an extra big thank you to the Mendocino Study Club for their generous donation of a $100 prize for the 1st place individual scorer Erica Schimmel.

3rd Place: Point Arena = 471.5
4th Place: Mendocino = 465.5
5th Place: Fort Bragg = 461.5
