The Senses of Me

I am the blue of the sky.
I am the smell of honey.
I am the taste of strawberries.
I am the feeling of a soft blanket.
I am the neigh of a playful horse.

Gavin
Grade 1, Albion School

The Moon

The moon is a pretty
pink marble.

The moon is a night light
for all nocturnal animals.

The moon is like a
big round cheese puff.

The moon is a new flower bud
opening the glistening light.

Every night, the moon
shoots out of a tulip
into the night sky.

The moon is the biggest night light
in the world.

The April Moon

The moon, the moon, the moon
Leave the moon alone
The moon is like a butterfly cocoon.
Meanness may not be around.
Another moon comes up,
and doesn’t make a sound.

Greta
Grade 1, Albion School

I’m a Red Tail Hawk

I’m a red tail hawk
Circling down
Picking up fish out of the sea.
A fisherman that
Will fly
That is me.

I am a red tail hawk
I roam the universe
Like horses.
Any kind of red tail hawk
That you see
That will be me.

Elyas

Respect

I am the roll
of the waves.
I dream of being
safe and clean.
My teachers were
the sea animals.
They taught me that
man was dumping
garbage into the ocean.
I ask for respect.

Finnian
Grade 1, Albion School

I Want to Be Clean

I am the ocean water.
I was taught to play.
I don’t want people
to throw garbage in me.
I dream about being clean.

Jasmine
Kindergarten, Albion School

In the Middle of the Sea

In the middle of the sea
I hear the mermaids singing

In the middle of the sea
I hear the spirit speak.

In the middle of the sea
the starfish sparkle.

Kyla
Kindergarten, Albion School

The Ocean

I love the ocean
with waves
as big as cliffs.

The moon sparkles
with beauty.
It carries your love
and my love in it.
It sighs a sigh
and reflects love
from my ancestors.

I hear the ones
who love me.
In the waves
I feel the hands
of the ones
who love me.

Los Lobos/ My Wolves

Mis lobos no tienen frio porque tienen piaje.
Mis lobos oyen a la luna.
Mis osos son peludos, pero
no oyen a la luna.

My wolves are not cold, because they have fur.
My wolves listen to the moon.
My bears are furry, but
they do not listen to the moon.

Mauricio
Kindergarten, Albion School

Together

She rides so gracefully over
the silent swaying of the waves.
She smells the deep salty
smell of the ocean.
She calls to the waves with
a gentle soft call.
With a silent goodbye
she dives beneath the depths.
She rises, whistles to the horizon
and two sunrise colored dolphins come.
On one is a merman. She climbs on
the other dolphin and together
they rise to the sunset
and disappear.
