My Magical Wish

I like to think of my poem as a shooting star
trying to reach its destination
across the sky.

I like to think of my poem as a beautiful river
flowing through the rocks.

I like to think of it as a redwood tree
trying to get taller and taller.

I see the bears with their powerful arms
trying to catch a fish, or even a hawk swooping down
to gather fish,
or a seal trying to crack a clam,
or a bird,
or a fish, or a rose, or

I like to think of a beautiful jungle
that is not a mirage.

I like to think of a beautiful rose
trying to grow as big as a house.
That is my dream.
That is my wish.

If You Want to Live on My Street

If you want to
live on my
street you will
have to overcome
a forest of trees.

If you want to
live on my
street you will
have to deal with
the giant fish.

If you want to
live on my
street you will
have to play cards
with the Goddess of
Fire.

If you want to
live on my
street you will
have to fly
high in the
sky on a fire
breathing dragon.

If you want to
live on my
street you will
have to be you.

Calling Souls

whispering souls that
are whispering for
help, souls waiting
for the voice of freedom
waiting for freedom to ring
through the air like
the icy shimmering
feathers of a peacock,
souls that have been
lost and forgotten
and souls as frail
as an orchid’s petals

by Hannah Brown Nazarin, Fourth Grade

en el mar en paz

to live safely

buscando por una casa
para vivir en calma

because disrespectful

terrerosos animals están asustados
porque desresponsables
niños están gritando

Silence

I am silence when you are alone.
I am your only friend.
When you are walking, I am next to you.
I am what you hear, nothing, that
is the sound of me.
I can be as quiet as nothing,
but I am silence, not nothing, but
silence.
You can not see or hear me.
I am silence.
I have many brothers and sisters.
I am the world’s most heard thing.
I am silence.

El Centro de las Planetas

La planeta es un círculo como una pelota
La planeta está muy caliente, como la arena
La planeta está muy frio como el agua
La planeta está azul como la agua y el cielo
La planeta está gris como los delfínes nadando.

The Center of the Planets

The planet is a circle, like a ball
The planet is very hot like the sand
The planet is very cold, like the water
The planet is blue, like water and sky
The planet is gray like swimming dolphins.

Keys to Baseball

Keys to baseball
are to hit the
ball with my
golden bat
and to field
the ball with
my golden
glove and to get
the out the
right way and
regular way
to get the
out I would
and you
can do
anything
with my
golden
bat
and
glove
and
that’s
why I like baseball.

A World of Flickers

At my house is a world of flickers
In the morning is a flicker fiesta
At dusk, flickers fly home
In the middle of the day, the flickers bask in the sun
When my dog Sara comes, they fly, fly away, and
Way up above my head, I see them
I see the inside of their wings, and I see orange
At night, I dream of flickers.

Preguntos de la Vida

¿ Por qué no podemos vivir más de doscientos años?
¿ Cómo se crean los bebes adentro de las panzas de mamás?
¿ Cuando se acabará el mundo?
¿ Como inventaron los video juegos?

Questions About Life

Why can’t we live more than two hundred years?
How do babies grow inside the mom’s belly?
When will the world end?
How are video games invented?

Red-Eyed Sapphire

Sapphires are
blue, like violets,
right?

Well, think again.
I am a red-eyed
sapphire.
In my
eyes   there   isn’t
any love.
Just hatred.
But that
doesn’t matter.
What matters is peace on
Earth.
A pocket full, not
Empty
of invites
and notes.
Having 5 senses.
Shining, even in
black.

Horse Woman

She calls them from
miles away so
she can rescue
them from tragic
situations. No
one notices her
unless she’s at a
rodeo. She lives in
a cabin in the
Montana mountains,
her name
is Horse Woman.

She rides like the
wind, and loves to
barrel race.

Clean the Earth

I can fly
also sing
I am a human by day
but something else by night
My super power is to sing
While I sing, the earth cleans itself
and brings water to poor countries
I help Earth, not destroy it
I am your conscience telling you
to help clean the earth
So help me,
pick up some trash today.

Loneliness in the Wild

A baby deer sits with its mother
by a river bank.

A heron eats fish from a pond.

An eagle soars in the sky.

A herd of horses quietly graze
in a meadow.

A fox searches for food
in the open.

I watch these animals together
while I’m alone.

My Dog’s Four Feet

My dog is hiding my
poem under his four feet

I wonder if the rain will
catch him

He looks up at clouds
He remembers me
He looks down at his feet
He wonders to himself,
“Does she still miss me?”

Your Imagination

Your imagination is giant.
You have it living in you.
It loves playing games,
and being creative.
It’s very colorful, but
it could be dark.
It’s a peaceful, kind creature.
It colors outside the lines.
It’s your best weapon.
Your imagination.

paint, paint, the color of moods
the colors of expressions

Why

Why isn’t there love?
   Why is there anger?
Why hate, when you can love?
Why lie? Come on say the truth!
               Why loneliness?
                    Why pain?
                        Why death?
                           Why not hope?

Imagination

I am the music in a beautiful melody.
I glimmer like the shining sun every morning.
I have a huge imagination.
I am a white and black spotted horse
that gallops day and night.
I can be anything,
and still be me.

War and Peace

War brings hate and
honors anger

War destroys love
and drowns truth

War’s best friend
is violence, it
loves hatred

War banishes hope
and burns wisdom

War and death
go hand in hand

War locks up freedom
and gives nothing but
hunger

War brews dark
concoctions that
are made with sorrow
and deception

War takes a shower
in confusion, panic,
and loneliness

When war is around
harmony and tranquility
go down the
drain

War feeds on
Faith and forgiveness

However war is scared
of one thing
Peace.

Spectacular Purple

Purple,
Purple like as if it was
grapes

Grapes,
Grapes look as if they were
tiny bouncy balls

Tiny bouncy balls,
Sound like as if they were
jumping into a pool

Jumping in a pool
feels like a
big splash

And if you make a
big splash, it
comes out
purple.

My Best Friend Poem

My poem is not a dragon, my poem is a space bird,
flying as it was free.
My poem is wonderful as a fluffy bunny,
it’s small but its fur is cuddly.
My poem is a beautiful moon,
it looks like it’s going to fall.
My poem is flying because of excitement,
next time it will be more interesting.
My poem is excited because there are going to be
more poems than anything.
My poem is seeing a red bird, a golden bird,
and all kinds of birds.
My poem feels like we are in paradise,
but with more poems than anything.
All of this is all about poems and me.
