Point Arena Elementary School
2008/2009

Hello Mr. Obama

You are a great president
we hope you have a nice winter
since you are new
we want to share our rules
for new people with you:
“be save, respectful and responsible”
also, don’t break the toys
We thank you for taking office
and we know it scary and exciting
to be new
We saw you on a big screen TV and really like
that people want to listen to your words
(and loved that lady singing)
and we like the way you talk
your clear deep voice
it reminds us of a camel on a long walk
through the desert
Is it icy at the White House?
We live in Point Arena
so it is not so cold for us
We want you to soar like a kite
on the green hills
but wonder if the security guys let you fly kites
on the White House lawn?
Do you know why dinosaurs die?
Do you watch Sponge Bob Square Pants & Jonny Bravo?
If you say yes, we love you even more!
Here’s some kindergarten advice
put your hand in your ear
when you are tired and don’t light the fire
Please take care of our future, your daughters, the people
and the trees and stay healthy
by playing lots of basketball
and eating healthy stuff like happy carrots, bananas & a big breakfast
(and you should quit smoking too)
Be sure to go to bed early so you can get your job done

Have a good White House day.

P.S. Ms Henley is a good teacher!

To President Obama

We want you to set our country free
and save it from the bad guys like Bush
(maybe you should put them in a bathtub full of rotten eggs)
We want to see you change into the best president
of allthe greatest Obama!
We want you to visit our school
and make it less boring
maybe make lunch sooner
so we don’t starve
we also want bikes and hope to get to high school sooner
We think the Pledge of Allegiance is good for America
because it will make you happy
We want you to change the world
and make night all day so we don’t have to go to school
and make Jagger’s house into a giant pizzeria
Grace’s house into an ice cream shop
and Alejandro’s garage a pizza place too.
We have some questions for you, such as
Why does gravity stay on Earth?
Will you give toys to children?
Will you ask stores to make Obama Bubble Heads?
Do you have a cat?
How old are your kids?
We want you to be nice and giving and kind
We want you to share your money
with your family and your country
and we want you to be alive forever!

Love
Ms. Schmidtz 1st Grade Class, Arena Union Elementary School
Blake More, Poet Teacher

Dear President Obama

It is cool that you are the 44th Prez
Will you help people live longer by stopping the wars
and giving food to poor people?
Can you make everything free
including chocolate cake and ice cream every day?

We need you to bring everyone together
like the day you were inaugurated
We hope you make the whole world candy
because it is good and people will be happy eating
Will you show us the UFOs?
We have some advice for you:
eat your veggies
make school start at 1:30 and end at 1:31
bush your teeth every night
and never stand under a ladder
it is bad luck

Best Wishes,

The Kids of 2nd Grade

Dear Obama

homeless people

Beautiful Butterfly

I am a beautiful butterfly
with blue, black, pink, and white wings.
My wings are long and I can fly in the blue sky.
I will land on any flower.
I like to smell the flowers and see the beautiful colors.
My wings are smooth and thin.
I am dreaming of landing
on a flower that has all my colors.

The Aqua Dress

Aqua’s like a dress that hangs down
It floats in the air
It stays waiting to be used
Day by day
It’s still not used
It seems like the colors change, by the feelings it makes
Someone has used it, now
the dress is gone.

Moon of the Night of Wolf’s Song

December’s moon is night of the wolf’s song
when a bat screeches across the moon
where the mermaids dive

The pale moon rises up high
where the griffins screech
The wolf stands
in the wondrous land and sings
It is a song of sadness
happiness
and revenge
on the night of the wolf’s song.

A Rock’s Story

It used to be a lightning bolt,
Burning prairies into dust,

It used to be a diamond soul,
it never argued, it never fussed
It used to be a magic key
to open up a magic door

But then somebody picked it up,
and tossed it on the floor.

A wizard found it on the floor,
and thought it opened an evil door,
and so the wizard cursed it,
and now it is a key no more.

It’s just an ordinary rock,
a rock with a stunning story,
never able to tell it
never able to feel such glory.

In the Year 2020

In the year 2020, I’ll drive a convertible
In the year 2020, I’ll be 20
When I am 20, I’ll be in college
When I’m in college, I’ll invent a flying car
When I invent a flying car, I’ll get a dog.
When I get a dog, I’ll play the flute
When I play the flute, I’ll discover a flying pig
When I discover a flying pig, I’ll run around in circles
When I run around in circles, I’ll practice art
When I practice art, I’ll eat a pomegranate
When I eat a pomegranate, I’ll study turtles
And that’s what will happen in the year 2020.

Shining Moon

This is the moon of light, and this is my favorite moon.
This is my world of wonders, and my world of dreams.
This is my world of fantasy, and this is my world of silence.
This is the world of my own, and it is wonderful.
When I climb up there, I can see the dolphins
fishing for me, and for the moon.
I can see cows flying up in the sky, and
birds talking to me.
The sky shines with brightness and happiness.
The sky is blue, and you can see the pelicans pass by.
I nap in the moon.
The moon is my life, and where I live.
I live in a happy place with my friends
and the dolphins that rise in the sky.
That is my happy place.
