I am a student
but a teacher as well
trying to further my education
in the everlasting quest for knowledge
I am a butterfly
hesitantly exploring all that surrounds me
I am a rusty swing set
no longer in use
but content with the many years of play I've had
I am an earthquake
that sets things apart and causes a disruption among the living
I am a child
lost in the fast pace of our world
I am a woman
on the brink of falling into an eternity of bliss
I am a mourner and a griever
a celebrator and a surpriser
I am a destroyer and a renovater
But most of all I am here and now and I am me

I am an ocean of sand constantly shifting
My focus ever wavers
I am a line of computer code
orderly and precise
For if I am not I am bound to fail
I am the darkness holding unknown knowledge
The burden is great
I am the light, clarifying others perceptions
Because it helps us both
I am the watcher, waiting for the time to act
But the time may never come
But I make mistakes
I am human

(After Susan Griffin- The Forest)

The way we stand, you can see we have up this way together, out of the same soil, with the same rains, each of us significantly different than the others, each of us will now learn to stand alone, each of us missing something different than the other, on my own I will miss the people I have known all my life, my friends, the people I fear I may never see again, I will miss the security I am use to from high school's disciplined routine, each of us leaving behind something we hope to never see again, on my own I will be glad to leave behind the drama, I will be happy to never eat school cafeteria food again; each of us changing something different about ourselves and the world, on my own I will learn to be more accepting of the change that drifts my way, on my own I will change the world!

I am the soul with a stolen heart
I am the lost love in the dark
I am your match, and you mine
I am the coal waiting to shine
I am looked at but not seen
I am with you and free
I am the fire burning in your mind
I am the tear dripping from your eye
I am the one to comfort you
I am the glass to see through

Land Of the Free

the ability of thought
my minds mere existence
the third eye
an imagination at its apex
walking or waiting
imprinting on paper descriptions
from my thoughts
jotting it down furiously
before it falls to the ground
and rots
imagination is my land
of freedom and the brave

My true country is a crowd cheering
cheering me on as I can barely see them
past the gleaming lights
My true country is the beat of the music
which flows through my body so effortlessly
the dedication that drives me
gives me the confidence to go on stage
without fear
My true country is my heart thumping
so fast as the curtains reveal me
My true country is just being myself
and showing others that there is more
to me than they have seen
It is a high to see the crowd
My true country is the thrill
my true country is dance

Me, myself, you and I

I'm the one that'll push you, I'm confident
I'm the one that'll teach you, I'm patient
I'm the one that'll listen,
I'm open
I'm the one that'll preach,
high prominence
But you, you're so different, you're my protectant
You, you see, you're my solid
You and I, we'll see, this is our moment
To rise high and shine
Me, myself, you, and I
